High school senior portraits are about more than just updating a yearbook photo. They document a major milestone — the close of one chapter and the beginning of another.
For this session, we started on campus at San Dieguito Academy and then headed to the beach in Encinitas for a completely different coastal look. The combination created a gallery that felt personal, meaningful, and reflective of her senior year.
Campus High School Senior Portraits at San Dieguito Academy
There’s something special about photographing high school senior portraits on campus. It adds context and history to the session.
San Dieguito Academy’s open layout and architectural details provide a clean, structured backdrop that works beautifully for senior portraits. Shooting at her school allowed us to incorporate the place where she has spent the last four years — making the images even more significant.
For her first look, she wore:
-
Her high school letterman’s jacket
-
A casual jeans outfit
The letterman’s jacket added personality and school pride, while the denim kept the look relaxed and authentic. Campus sessions are especially meaningful for seniors involved in athletics, academics, or extracurriculars who want their high school experience reflected in their portraits.
Beach High School Senior Portraits in Encinitas
After finishing on campus, we transitioned to the Encinitas coastline for the second half of her session.
Encinitas offers incredible variety for high school senior portraits — sandy shoreline, coastal cliffs, and soft evening light that photographs beautifully year-round.
For her second look, she chose a simple white dress — always a timeless option for beach senior portraits. The clean lines and light fabric created a strong contrast to the structured campus setting and brought a softer, coastal feel to the gallery.
Combining a school location with the beach gives seniors:
-
Variety in scenery
-
A balance of structured and natural backdrops
-
A gallery that feels both personal and expansive
The short distance between San Dieguito Academy and the beach makes Encinitas ideal for a two-location senior session.
What to Wear for High School Senior Portraits
This session is a great example of how two well-planned outfits can create a cohesive and dynamic final collection.
Look One: School-Inspired
-
Letterman’s jacket
-
Casual denim
-
Clean, classic styling
Look Two: Coastal & Timeless
-
Little white dress
-
Minimal accessories
-
Natural styling
High school senior portraits don’t need complicated wardrobe changes. A meaningful school look paired with a timeless outfit almost always produces the strongest results.
Senior Albums vs. Matted Prints
After every senior session, families decide how they want to preserve their images.
Many high school seniors choose a custom senior album to tell the full story of their session in one cohesive keepsake.
This family chose a different direction — a box of beautifully matted prints.
The matted print box allowed them to:
-
Create a wall gallery at home
-
Gift prints to grandparents
-
Rotate images seasonally
-
Keep certain prints safely stored
There is no single right choice. The best option is the one that fits how you want to display and share your high school senior portraits for years to come.
